Apollo Sunguard Expands On Its Commitment To Make Children's Playgrounds Sun Safe
Sarasota, FL—Working closely with the Sarasota Department of Parks and Recreation, Apollo Sunguard Systems, Inc. ™ has installed thirty of its uniquely beneficial PlayTowers™ sunshade structures in seven parks within the greater Sarasota area.
Apollo Sunguard Systems’ innovative, obstacle-free PlayTowers™ attach directly to existing playground equipment. The PlayTowers™ provide shade over the heart of the playground, while eliminating columns that need to be secured into the ground. In most cases, a park’s playground equipment can be retrofitted with two large PlayTowers™ and one single-column PlayBrella™.
“Apollo Sunguard is committed to cool comfort, sun safety and the health of all ages, especially that of children,” says Apollo Sunguard President Kevin Connelly. “We believe kids should enjoy playgrounds without their parents being concerned about the harmful effects of the UV rays. We’re not in the playground business, we make playgrounds sun safe for kids!” Connelly added.
Apollo has recently been awarded the prestigious Golden Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) for their outstanding sun safety products and commitment to sun safety.
According to the AAD, approximately one out of every five children in the US will grow up to have some form of skin cancer. And recent trends are showing a significant increase in skin cancer in younger adults and adolsecents.
The PlayTowers™ structures have been a big hit with both parents and kids because they protect children from the harmful UV effects of the sun while still allowing children to enjoy the health benefits of exercise and fresh air. The County Parks and Recreation Department has noted a dramatic increase in the use of Shamrock Park since the addition of shade over play areas.
“I’m so excited at the prospect of our favorite parks being equipped with these new shade structures,” says mom of four, Alena Kelley. “Not having to worry about my children being exposed to the sun while playing at the park or getting burned on a hot metal slide makes a huge difference when choosing a play area for my kids.”
